£523 Raised for Charity
In spite of a very soggy Sunday, our Beer & Music raised an impressive £523 which will be divided equally between Demelza Hospice Care for Children and Cancer Research UK. Thank you to everyone who bought a raffle ticket during the weekend. Thank you also to Andy from Crazy Face Painting who donated a very generous amount from his weekends takings. Adding to the fundraising effort was a 10p donation from every pint sold in the beer tent, we do this every year. Finally, thank you once again to everyone who supported the event, we hope you had a great time!
In spite of a soggy start, Festival day 2 is well underway and the earlybird festival goers have just enjoyed the Rye Bay Crew singing Sea Shanties (quite appropriate really!). Anyway, Team White Hart are on great form, the BBQ is lit (a little bit of rain has never stopped a BBQ in this country has it?!) and we've got Roast Beef and Roast Pork in the restaurant today along with the Festival Menu. The garden real ale bar is well and truly open with the first pints of the day sold being Oast House and Wise Owl Cider. Andy from the Crazy Face Painting is already busy painting faces. Don't let this typical Summer's day put you off coming, we've got some gazebos for shelter. Come and enjoy the FREE music! Hope to see you.
Take a real ale tour from Scotland to the Isle of Wight at the Festival
We have 14 real ales, 2 ciders and 1 perry in the beer 'tent' this year. We think it's the best year ever in terms of the range of beer, from breweries as far afield as Scotland to the Isle of Wight and we are keen to know what you think, so please pick up a voting form during the festival and let us know your favourites. See our Tasting Notes below to get a sneak preview and choose your first pint!
Festival Charity Raffle
During the festival we will be raising money for Demelza Hospice Care for Children and Cancer Research UK so please do offer your support by buying some raffle tickets during the weekend.
Thank you to the following local companies and individuals who have donated prizes:
The Walled Nursery, Hawkhurst, Huntleys Butchers, Tenterden, Ellis Wines of Richmond, the Bodiam Boating Station, Gardenscape, David Driver, The White Hart (is it ok to thank ourselves?!).
Ivan will also be donating 10p from every pint sold at the garden bar.
Jazz Around the Hop
Congratulations to Pauline Riley, the winner of this year's White Hart and Rother Valley Brewing Comany's (RVBC) 'Name Our Festival Beer Competition' who came up with Jazz Around the Hop. Steve from RVBC picked the winning name and will present Pauline with an exclusive T-Shirt featuring the pump badge design and £20 worth of Festival Beer Tokens. Thank you to everyone who entered!
BBQ - Why miss one single moment of the music? Head to the festival BBQ and grab a bite to eat and still enjoy the music! We will have hot dogs, chilli dogs, cheese burgers, Bockwurst in a roll, chicken kebabs and mushroom burgers, all served with delicious homemade accompaniments depending on what you choose!
Restaurant - Open Saturday 12noon-9pm and Sunday 12noon-8pm
Restaurant Menu - this will be available to order and eat in the restaurant both days. We couldn't let Sunday go by without our fabulous roasts, so on Sunday in addition to the restaurant menu, we will also be serving Roast Beef and Roast Pork with all of the traditional accompaniments.
IT’S A FAMILY AFFAIR!
Festival goers will be treated to a very special performance by Grandad and Granddaughter act ‘im and ‘er during The White Hart, Newenden’s, two day Beer and Music Festival taking place on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th July.
Although they have both played to live audiences in the past, their performance on Sunday at 1.45pm, will be the first time they have taken to the stage together.
Dave, 74, a well known and much loved regular at the pub, has played the bass guitar since he taught himself at the age of 16. He then went on to spend 45 years performing with many semi-professional bands. His musical passion was and still is heavily influenced by blues guitarists and vocalists.
This has clearly rubbed off on Jenni, 15, who first picked up a guitar at the age of 8 years old and even with contemporary artists such as Ed Sheeran providing musical inspiration, she admits that if she could aspire to play like anyone, it would be her Grandad. Jenni also has a fabulous voice.
With a 59 year age gap between them, they will be mixing songs from the modern day with songs from back in the day at the festival.
Jenni commented, “This will be the first time me and my Grandad have ever performed to anyone as a double act. It’s going to be a special day for us because we both have such a strong passion for music and it will be a memory we can both share.”

The Crazy Face Painters Will Be Back
Jules and Andy of Crazy Facepainting, are exceptionally talented face painting and temporary tatooists. They have been with us from the very beginning and will once again be transforming the faces of the little and big kids! Each year they very generously donate a percentage of their festival takings to the charities we are supporting, so a big thank you to them.
